High Priestess Valeria Laenorin
Life is meant to be lived, and every moment of it should be moment of joy if we can make it so.
Description: Valeria has a curvier figure than most slender elven women, with fair skin and a kindly smile to go with it. Her auburn hair is often plaited as it frames a heart-shaped face. Her bright green eyes always have a twinkle of amusement in them except when she takes on a more serious air.
Personality: Valeria made a name for herself as a top student of the restoration school in the Mage College. However, seeing the horrors of Estril’s Feast heavily affected Valeria and led her to join the priesthood of Gala. She did not understand how five hundred souls were judged to be reaped just like that. Where was the forgiveness? Where was the chance at redemption. Mercy became a central aspect of her worship and devotion to the goddess, and she became known for showing it to even those that went out of their way to insult her or hurt her. She developed the ability face any challenge with poise and dignity, championing the idea that meekness is not a sign of weakness. Serious when she needs to be, she also has a smile for anyone that approaches her. When indulging in a few drinks she’s known to exhibit the full enjoyment of life that is an integral part of Gala’s worship.
Background: Only 73 when Estril's Feast took the lives and souls of many of the Elven Kin, she was deeply disturbed by the event and it changed her life. While she had been studying Restoration at the Acadeum, she started rounding out her education with theology and a devotion to Gala's other virtues; mercy, love, an enjoyment of life. She stood up for those who were ridiculed or teased for a lack of talent, and did not give up her sense of worth even when derision turned on her on occasion for being too compassionate.
She was raised to High Priestess in her mid 300s, when the former holder of office stepped down to better enjoy their retirement. She's taken to the post with aplomb and dignity, but never forgets that joy is part of Gala's teaching. She preaches mercy as much as she does a love for the natural world, because you cannot truly understand Gala without embracing all her aspects. Around this time she also found a husband, marrying a ranger from the Egilion family. The two lived life to the fullest and eventually had a daughter.
When the time came to leave Larandor she deeply lamented leaving behind her friends amongst the Hearthlings, who shared Gala's love of living life to the fullest. It is their loss she regrets most as they were innocents. She served as a healer of those wounded by the Host up until the very last moments.
In Aarandor, she's championed the preservation of this beautiful wild world despite the desire for expansion beyond the Kinship's domains. Gala granted them a paradise and they should be glad of it. Her husband was swept away in the great flood of 16 PA, it was a devastating tragedy to all of the Duindar. To help the wounded, she was one of the establishing founders of the Eternal Grace Hospital located in Thelos, which sits neatly nearby Gala's glade.
