Cleansing of the Waters in Thelos

During the summer months, the Aeran have a tradition of gathering together in the waters that flow into the seal to perform a ritual of cleansing to wash away the wrongs they have done to others, and to ask Aereth and Garwen to help forgive one another and exchange gifts, apologies, and other offers of simple service.

Darinel Alcaldia invites members of the Kin to join her at the river of the Mountainside Peak for a Thelosian version of this holiday, where all may partake in the cleansing of the waters should they so wish.

For those who cannot find forgiveness for their fellow citizens, for whatever reason - or who simply enjoy the sport of it, another event will be offered later at the Mountain Peak river that will allow citizens to pair up with one another in a duel.

Come prepared for gifts, food, and friendship, and to put the past in the past so one might be able to move forward.

The event being held the waterfall peak is the Aeran holiday known as Cleansing of the Waters, being shared by Kinlessa Darinel Alcaldia. There is a table set up close to the river where gifts can be dropped off while the ritual cleansing to wash away whatever wrongs they have done to one another is completed, and prayers are sent to Aereth and Garwen to help elves forgive each other are passed along.

There is also a table for refreshment and drink, with items from every kinship represented to go with the theme of having the Aeran holiday take place in Thelos, rather than in Lorawin itself, to offer the opportunity of inclusion. Darinel is milling about, waiting for people to arrive before getting started.

Jetsam the eelhound, A bat named Wayne arrive, following Nalaea.

There is also a table for refreshment and drink, with items from every kinship represented to go with the theme of having the Aeran holiday take place in Thelos, rather than in Lorawin itself, to offer the opportunity of inclusion. People are milling about, some are standing in the river, while others might be chatting with each other by the food table, or wondering over the neatly wrapped gifts.

Zaltar enters the peak silently avoiding the crowds, mostly observing the event. He offers polite greetings to anyone who approaches him

Lucrezia bounces up the hill to the waterfall, a small wrapped box in her hands. She looks around, smiling at those she knows and waving before putting the box on the table.

Vindal strides in, his priestly cloak swishing around as he walks. Ursula, his energetic eelhound, trots along right beside him, eager, it seems, to get to the water and splash around.

Not far behind Ursula is Jetsam; the other water-wiggle-pup happy to follow its kin to the water. And behind him? Nalaea, wearing the robes of Aereth herself. Her hair has been sort-of brushed, but still has that ragged, windswept look it always seems to. Maybe she's just bad at brushing. It doesn't take long for her to catch up to Vindal and offer, quietly: "Long time no see."

The Warlord of the Thalertih is curious about Aeran holy rituals. Though she does not intend to participate, she finds a comfortable spot near the water and sits down with her krilkar curled around her, to watch the proceedings.

Darinel smiles warmly at each new face she sees, particularly if those new faces are people from outside of the Aeran kinship. She reaches down to pick up a carefully wrapped gift of her own to set it on the table, and seems to scan the crowds to see if any others are coming before beginning in full. Once she's certain there's no one else coming, does she begin, "Good evening, and thank you for coming to part one of our holiday, Cleansing of the Waters. Usually, this ceremony is held as one event, but I felt it prudent to break it up into two nights in case we got a large crowd. I imagine the second part will be more entertaining and exciting, as it involves duels. But, for this evening, we'll be standing in the waters of the river, cleansing ourselves with the water and offering apologies for the things we may have done wrong, either in general or to others. It doesn't matter if that person is not here to accept that apology, offering it publicly here during the ceremony - and seeking forgiveness privately - is welcome as well. Afterwards, we offer prayers to both Aereth and Garwen to help others find a way to forgiveness. If you can't find it in your heart to forgive a person, a duel is then acceptable, while you standing in the water so you are still cleansed and absolved of your actions. The duels are taking place two days hence, here in this same spot." She looks around and says, "If you'd like to partake, please get in line so we can manage this in an orderly manner."

Darinel notes. "Of course, you can also duel just for the fun of it as well, two days hence."

Lucrezia checked dexterity + artwork at difficulty 24, rolling 3 higher.

Zaltar has joined the line.

Lucrezia has joined the line.

Vindal sees Jetsam scamper off after Ursula and grins, he turns to look for Nalaea, then and spies her just as she comes up to him. "Cousin, it's good to see you, too," he says with a grin. Then he heads toward the tables, reaching into a pocket inside his cloak to pull out a small gift and set it down with the others before walking over to greet his sister as well. "Luce."

Vindal has joined the line.

Zaltar tentatively moves over to the line is forming, seem fairly nervous and unsure. He keeps quiet as he waits to be noticed or directed

"I hope you're not terribly homesick," Nalaea quips to Vindal. She does follow and drops something onto the table. It's poorly wrapped and clunks awkwardly when it lands. Rather than follow the others as they gather up to begin the ritual, she steps off to the side to seemingly just observe.

Lucrezia smiles, shrugging at Vindal and Nalaea. "I heard he hasn't left the estate in days. Does she braid your hair, Vindal? Tell the truth..." She winks teasingly at her newlywed brother and cousin, giving a subtle wave to her new friend Zaltar as well.

Vindal's lips press into a smirk. "As a matter of fact, she does," he says. He winks right back and then turns to see who else has come to celebrate forgiveness.

Zaltar offers Lucrezia a shy wave in return, tucking his hair behind his ear

Sliding along the procession edges, wrapped and shrouded in his cloak per usual, calico in his wake chasing after the dragging shifting green hued material that wipes away footsteps as he passes. Catching word of the ritual itself, Gureylain holds at the edges of any lining up for apologies, at least for the moment, content to observe as he glides to a halt, hidden within the hood pulled far enough forward to dip and ensconce his expression in a velvet green penumbra

Darinel grins widely as several people have stepped up to join the line. She nods to each person. "I'll go first to start off." With that said, she steps into the river. She's wearing a short summer dress to make participating in the ceremony a bit easier. The water goes up to her knees before she stops and makes a show of washing her arms, her hand, and her face. Once she resembles a slightly drenched seal, no not really, does she turn to the others and say. "I apologize for breaking my sister Mihris's favorite statue. I didn't mean to bump into it. I regret that I said some mean things to Elleth while we were out exploring Lorawin this past year. And I hope my mother accepts that I didn't mean to avoid her, entirely, when the whole Baridon situation was happening. And, I apologize for Tykalos for not being more supportive while he was trying his best to represent Aereth." She looks around for each of her family members, to see if maybe they made it this evening after all. Not seeing them, she presses her lips together. Private make up sessions it'll be! Later. Or maybe, even, a duel in two days! That said and done she steps out of the water, and invites the first person in line to do their own thing.

Turn in line: Zaltar

Zaltar steps forward nervously and says barely auidable enough to be heard. "I am sorry for all the awkward confusing situations I have found myself in either by my own design or nature. I am trying to learn to socialize more normally with others. Also any hurt feelings from social stumblings I may have had along the way so far." He bows his head and moves out of the way for the next person

Lucrezia unlaces her boots and nods toward the water at Zaltar. "C'mon, Thalerith. I hear you don't like baths, but...this is how it's done. I'll help you." Barefoot, she steps into the water, holding out a hand to him.

Darinel grins widely at Zaltar. "Well done," she tells the man. She then grabs her gift, since her family members are not there to collect it, and passes it off to him. "And, for your efforts at making apologies, I accept your apology offer you this gift." It is a lengthy package, that's about 4 feet long, and two feet wide. It is neatly wrapped in brown paper. "May you do better in social situations in the future."

Darinel drops recurved long bow carved with desert animals.

Zaltar takes Lucrezia's hand nervously and steps in the water also accepting the gift given to him, smiling shyly. "Thank you," he says softly and chews at his lower lip

Turn in line: Lucrezia

Scooping the cold water up in her hands, she pours some on Zaltar's head, and then her own, washing her face and hands as the water trails down her. Throwing her shoulders back, she proclaims, "I apologize for not being more supportive of my brother Vindal's marriage. I apologize to him, and to his bride, Selandriel, who it turns out -is- a very nice person and who does love him truly and definitely is not an old sea hag. I should've done better. And sooner. I'm sorry, Vin." She looks toward her brother, glancing down at her toes in the river.

Zaltar closes his eyes as the water splashes over him, leaving him looking like a wet animal, who seems trapped now unsure what to do as he mimics Lucrezia?s motions carefully tucking away the package he was given

Lucrezia helps Zaltar back out of the water, shuddering at the cold as they come out of the river. "There you go. You're all forgiven now." She grins at him happily.

Turn in line: Vindal

Gureylain moves towards those lining up to be cleansed in the waters, shifting to set in at the end of the line-up. No read of expression can be made, only his movements which remain calm and smooth. The cat pops along, mowing happily as he eventually lands on the dragging part of the cloak, purring happily as she is pulled along.

"I see, we don't have such practices at home," Zaltar says softly. "It is very interesting though," he murmers quietly. He offere Gureylain a quiet greeting as he passes by

There's a smile for Lucrezia's apologies, but Nalaea doesn't move from her spot by the table. Instead, she just continues to observe. There's a brightness in her expression, but also something serene and relaxed.

Darinel grins a bit at Lucrezia's apology, glancing over at Vindal to see how he'll take it. Will he accept, or will he require a duel? The anticipation! "Well spoken, Lucrezia." She looks over at Zaltar, "And thank you for participating. I'm Kinlessa Darinel Alcaldia. Do the Thalerith have any holidays?" she asks, sine Lucrezia did mention he was from that kinship.

Gureylain has joined the line.

Vindal's lips turn up in a slight smile and he shakes his head. He starts to walk out into the water, catching his sister by her shoulder as they pass. "That's easy to forgive, Luce. It's all washed out to sea." He gives her shoulder a squeeze and then continue to wade out into the water. He doesn't even take off his boots. He gets out hip deep, his Elder robes floating on the surface of the water. He cups water, bringing it up to his face and washing before he lifts his head up high shouting. "To my brother Talien, I am sorry for the harsh words I spoke to you in the days before my wedding. I know you do the best you can for Aeran and for your family. To my sister Lucrezia, I'm sorry I left you to fend for yourself with our brother and father. To the Steward of the Sea, I'm sorry I took your sword. It was shiny and I didn't realize it wasn't just lost." He stands there for a moment longer, before turning and wading back out of the river.

"I am Zaltar Aynarr and I would say Warlord Sylindra could better answer your questions on what the Thalerith people do then I since quoting Shamash I am hardly Thalerith at all," Zaltar replies quietly, fidgetting in his place he stands

Lucrezia embraces Vindal happily, whispering something to him and giving him the small box she'd set down earlier. "All forgiven."

Darinel gives Vindal an approving nod which turns grave when he speaks of the sword taken from the sea. "I'm sure the Watcher will offer his own forgiveness once we return the sword," she tells him, her look attempting to encourage confidence. "Thank you for your apologies, Wave Whisperer." She gives Zaltar a confused look. "Hardly Thalerith? Did you wed into the Kinship then?" she asks, curious. She gives Sylindra an equally curious look too, perhaps looking to see if she'll answer her question about Thalerith holidays. But before she gets caught up in all of that, she calls up the next person.

Turn in line: Gureylain

Vindal retuns Lucrezia's hug and takes the small box, opening it up to look at it. His eyes widen and then he looks at her with a loving smile. "Thanks Luce, I love it." He hugs her again, gives Darinel a nod and a smile, then walks over to stand near Nalaea, dripping everywhere as he goes. He doesn't even seem to mind.

Zaltar shakes his head and says, "Not that I know of, I have barely even started to understand what those sorts of relationships siginfy or how they work. I doubt at this point in time I would make a tolerable husband, let alone to many in my Kin," he says softly. "I am just different is all," he explains and shrugs. He tries to reply without intrupting others

"Do you feel better?" Nalaea's query to Vindal is quiet as she stands there, rocking a bit back and forth on her feet.

The Warlord hearing her name on the wind, gets up approaches the crowd, leaving her krilkar napping on the ground. She puts a hand on Zaltar's shoulder when she arives and shakes him friendily, "Oh don't be so down about it, Zaltar! "The priest Shamash only needles you in an effort to make you better. Any man who can defend his honour as well you have is one I am proud to call Thalerith. All we need to do now is get you out of this habit of apologizing for everything." She laughs and gives him a hearty slap in the back.

Zaltar gets recurved long bow carved with desert animals.

"I will do my best, Thank you Warlord," Zaltar replies softly and respectfully. Seeming a little winded by the blow to his back

Vindal rolls his shoulders in a shrug and glances toward the water. "Of course I do," he says after a moment, looking back to Nalaea with a grin.

A nod is given to Zaltar as he passes, the hood bobbing and his motion sending a ripple down to the ground. As he is called up he draws back his hood, stepping where directed while he cat bounces along to go pester Zaltar, mowing expectantly at him.
Face looking drawn, but not unhealthy, the woodself looks about speaking softly, but projecting so that his voice bounces from point to point, an action done more on instinct than intent as he looks up to the sky.
"My little love. I apologize that I have caused you a source to feel anger at the past, and I apologize that I cannot find the means to mend it for you." lips pursing, "Elonwe, Meygri - I am sorry I was not able to retrieve your bodies before I had to take your daughter, and sister, when the time called to flee." His expression becoming wooden at the last, taking a long breath.

Lucrezia covers her mouth, looking sad.

"Warlord," Darinel greets Sylindra. "Zaltar was telling me I should ask you about what sorts of holidays your kin celebrates." She glances at the interaction between Zaltar and Sylindra, grinning a bit. However, her attention is easily taken to Gureylain when he starts with his own apologies. Her expression sobers, and she offers to him. "Thank you, for sharing. This is one of the reasons why we hold this ceremony. We hold another at the Winter Solstice to remember those who we lost," she tells him.

"If the portals still restrict movement, I would share that ritual as well, Darinel." Gureylain bows to her, shifting his shoulders to let his hood fall back over his head as he rises, his face lost to shadow again before any other expression can be espied and he moves to make way for the next participant.

Zaltar bends down to pet the cat, spoiling with little treats he seems to carry for animals in a pouch he has hidden. He smiles softly at the cat as he dotes on it seeming more relaxed and at ease with the creature over the elves. He listens as Gureylain offers his apology and gives him a smile of his own

"We don't have any holidays like this one," says Sylindra. "Public apologies are not the Thalerith way, we are too proud, and there would be too much loss of face. The closest we have is duels. If people have a grievance they can call each other out and resolve with a fight, sometimes to first blood, sometimes to death, unless either combatnat yields. It is expected that both parties will consider the matter over and done with once the duel is over. It is not uncommon for these duels to happen during the Festival of Fire Trials, which happens at the exact midpoint of summer, when the sun is highest and days are hottest. There are also exhibition matches and physical constests of all sorts. while the Flame Seers share their wisdom and sing our lore. Indeed, a duel of honour need not be a pit fight with swoords. If both parties agree it could be a krilkar race, or an arduous trek through the desert, sometimes it might even be a challenge of the mind such as contests of riddles or puzzles."

Darinel inclines her head to Sylindra, "The second part of the ceremony includes duels for those who can't forgive each other, much like that. Or, those who wish to do so for sport. We'll be doing that in the next few days, as I wasn't certain how many people were coming to the ceremony in general." She listens to the rest and smiles. "It does certainly sound like Thalerith enjoy the more physical things, but that's a good way to show your strengths too." She looks to Gureylain and nods solemnly. "I'll see about scheduling something for then as well, for Thelos, if no one else does. I know I've found it helpful." She peeks around to see if anyone else is coming. Satisfied no one else is joining the line she says, officiously, "This concludes the first part of the Aeran holiday, cleansing of the waters. Join us same time, same place, in two days to participate in the duel by water; meaning you stand in the water as you duel."

Sylindra says, "Harsh lands, harsh ways."

Sylindra says, "Everything is a contest of strength out in the desert."

"I think after I have to face Rivek I shall have my fill of duels but thank you for the offer," Zaltar tells Darinel softly. "I much more like this part of the cerimony, sometimes it takes more strength of character to admit your wrongs and say sorry then attempt to save face," he comments

"I can see that," Darinel says to Sylindra. "I'd be interested in observing your holidays sometime." She nods to Zaltar. "Indeed, sometimes it does. No one likes to think they've done something wrong, even when the evidence stares them in the face." She looks around. "You are all free to mingle and drink and eat as you like, and finish passing out the gifts for our guests. Thank you all for coming."
