Log

Zeal, the young Snow Wolf, A clumsy Ice Elemental arrive, following Garett.

Another day in Thelos, and another event of the Grand Tournament is here! This time around it is the noble Joust, which tends to be somewhat more popular in Torendaar than in other cities across Aarandor, but who doesn't like to see a noble elf get their ass violently put onto the ground anyway? Rawlin is standing to one side, watching as the stands fill up. As usual, there are plenty of snacks and drinks on hand for the crowd to enjoy while watching the festivities.

Once the time comes for things to get started, the High Priest makes his way out to the center of the area and holds his hand up. "Ladies and Gentle-elves! Welcome to the next phase of the Grand Tournament of Thelos... The Joust! Today we will see elves try to knock other elves off of horses as violently as possible. Let us hope that we will all be entertained with some amazing horsemanship as well as crafty lance work. Because this is an event where a winner is named based on total points scored, we will be running several bouts at once as to not take all day."

"The First three bouts will be as follows: Aegon Keir vs. Lord Priest Leofric Tenlindil. Marchioness Yvette Monstald vs. Lord Heir Garett Ingith. And Lady Saga Brixtien vs. Lord Escanor Serannar."

Sylindra has joined the Grand Pavilion.

Garett is kneeling near the stands, an ice elemental perched on his shoulders as he speaks to a white wolf. While larger then most standard wolves, Zeal is smaller then most other Faenor wolves. He pats the creature on the side of the neck. "You are still to small yet for me to ride. I would hate to crush you. Perhaps next time." He plucks the elemental from his shoulder and sets it down next to the wolf. The elemental attempts to toddle of as Garett rises, but the wolf grabs it gently in his jaws and sets it back down close by. Garett moves over to a Horse, swinging into the saddle as he picks up a lance that is really more of a spear. "Shall we try this again Marchioness?"

Leofric is looking particularly joust worthy today dressed in red armor over black silk and mounted on a powerful looking horse the colour of rust. "Good luck to you today Aegon Keir." He tells his named opponent.

Escanor seems to take a breath as He's put up against Lady Saga. "Oh brother. I'm not as good a rider as she is..." He shrugs though. "Oh well. I suppose I will find a way to try and earn points." he looks at Lady Saga and he nods to her pleasantly.

a floppy yet regal ginger cat named George arrives, following Aurri.

Aegon is not known for his jousting ability, yet here he is. Sure, he's done it before, but short of displaying his courage and ability to take a hit he's made little impression. He doesn't even own his own stead, and is yet again borrowing a horse for the event. As seems to be his way, he is just finishing up painting his face as if for war, in a red X honoring Rithor. He's got his own shield at least, not yet re-painted from the recent duels but still showing art representing his house as well. It's been a busy tournament for him, and he's not as bouncey this time around. He raiseshis shield in salute to Leofric, "Ride without fear, my noble friend, and we will see if I know as much about lancing as I do about swords."

Frostbite, a large Faenor snow wolf, Frazil, an Ice Elemental arrive, following Relios.

For the most part, Yvette appears to be lost in thought as one of the Solaris Order's squires aids her with preparation for the joust. Her armor has been repaired from previous events, her coat cleaned. She looks every but the Lorandi knight, but then... as Grandmaster of the Blessed Order of Solaris, who else but she would? When Garett speaks in her direction, she looks to him and blinks once. "I suppose we shall." She pulls herself into the saddle, accepting helm, shield, and... a sword. It'd seem she is not opting for a lance; ready to risk the closer quarters.

Saga is ready along the sidelines, mounted up on Crete. The big bull is not as graceful as many of the horses around, but he's still quite the powerful animal. She grins as Rawlin announces everything, her pale blue eyes finding Escanor for a dip of her head and a wave! She's fully armored, ready and eager to go.

The Warlord has been at the Tournament Grounds a while, waiting for the competitors to arrive. She has taken the high raised seat at the grand pavilion, and why not? She is the supreme leader of the Thalerith after all. Her krilkar Malice lounges next to her, she looks displeased and her hackles are up at seeing so many Lorandi lions, especially her hated nemesis Sarabi, but she is smart enough to realize she is outnumbered, so she does nothing except growl plaintatively at her mistress, who simply shushes her. It is pretty clear she has no intention to participate, instead being content to watch and enjoying a bottle of Lorandi wine, which seems rather fitting for the occasion.

The Lord Heir arrives, fashionably late, and quietly takes his seat at one of the benches. Icy blue hues surveying the riders who would met their skills against another, upon catching sight of Yvette he gives a small wave of the hand before turning his attention elsewhere quickly.

"And it looks like Aegon has unhorsed Lord Priest Leofric, Lady Saga has unhorsed Lord Escanor and will you look at that! Who would have thought that Lord Heir Garett Ingith could display such tremendous riding skill!"

Aegon faces down Leofric, and while the Noble Elf may look more at home on his stead, the Faenor show's no hesitation nor fear of being struck. He makes for a large target anyway, and without his own feet under him there's little he can do to avoid a blow anyway. What he CAN do, is lean in to those hits, and time his own to attempt to increase the force his opponent faces when their shields and lances meet. It works this time, but perhaps only just barely.

Leofric drops the lance into position and kicks his horse into the charge. His lance strikes solidly against Aegon's shield at almost the same moment that his own shield gets hit. A moment later he's on the ground trying to work out how exactly the sight of Aegon charging towards him turned into a wonderful view of the sky. Blink. Oh. Right. Get up Leofric. He moves to his feet, dusting himself off as he moves, and then heads over to watch the rest of the round play out.

Saga urges Crete forward, lining up with the tilt and settling her lance. The young knight charges when the flag is dropped, managing to connect with Escanor but taking a far harder hit herself. It's only Saga's skill at riding that keeps her in the saddle, leaving her laying almost flat against Crete before she can pull herself back up.

Garett presses spurs to his horse, leaning forward as it starts charging down the list. He lifts the spear up, taking aim for Yvette's chest, a savage grin barely visable in the opening of his helmet as his lance shatters on the hit. But even as he strikes Yvette's sword swings down at him and strikes him as well. He drops in his saddle, slipping to one side. His hand lashes out to grab the saddle, holding tight to it as he finishes the ride on the side of the horse

Light claps can be heard from the bench, a small simple smile on the Lord Heir's expression as he watches each rider unhorse the other with almost ease.

Escanor is knocked ree from his horse! He rolls along the ground but gets right back up because...well, Saga didn't hit him that hard. Escanor just is significantly better as a footsoldier, not a horseman. "Well done, Lady Saga."

This showcases, perhaps, that the Solaris Order is not a singular-purpose or methodology order. Everyone brings different skillsets to the table. Be they traditional knightly skills or scholars or rangers or- Yvette Monstald is, perhaps, one who tries to fulfill whatever needs there are to be met, but she is not the knight of yore. The lack of a lance says enough there. The lance does, indeed, shatter, but she's able to perhaps hold on just long enough to get her blade in for a strike before the full concussive force unseats her and while her horse keeps going: she does not.

"Lord Priest Leofric has unhorsed Marchioness Yvette! And Lord Escanor and Aegon have unhorsed one another!" There's a pause as Saga and Garett make one pass, then another, and then another. "After a series of excellent riding by the Lord Heir and excellent lance work by Lady Saga they have unhorsed one another! What skill was put on display!"

Aegon is no stranger to facing Escanor on the tournament field, and the growing respect between them is shown with a salute before they tilt. As before, when the two strike each other it is loud and savage and both elves manage to brutally knock the other out of his saddle. Aegon is smiling when he stands thugh, face now caked with dust over war paint. He salutes Escanor again, "Thank you for reminding me what a good thumping feels like yet again."

Handing the coat off to a waiting squire, Yvette checks over her blade before the next pass. A lance is offered, but she pushes it away. "I hate the balance on those things," she mutters before ending up on the line. They may be better for the event, but in the actual pursuit of battle: a lance has little purpose in the woman's eyes. She sticks with the blade, twisting it to the side to try to use the flat of it against Leofric. The strike, at least, is more emboldened. But it leaves her open for a harder hit in the end and once more, she's unable to keep to her horse. It has her, muttering, in the end about needing a different horse.

Escanor rides against Aegon yet again! They really need some kind of tie-breaker or something. But Escanor manages to knock Aegon off of his steed but its vice versa! Now rolling over to his feet, Escanor holds his arm for a moment before straightening himself out. "Thank you for not holding back." Escanor returns to Aegon casually.

Saga once again, Saga and Crete ready themselves for the Joust, and once again they charge in. Her lance taps Garett only a little harder than it had hit Escanor, while Saga takes a solid hit but remains in her saddle. She turns, lining up on the other side of the tilt and waiting for a signal. Once more, she charges in, slamming her lance into Garrett while easily taking another hit. She lines up for the third bout, and this time there's a new light of determination in her pale blue eyes. When they charge, her lance *shatters* against Garett. Maybe it's her astonishment that makes her reaction just a little too slow. The young Brixtien almost keeps her saddle, but she just can't seem to get enough of a grip and hits the dirt.

Garett charges down the list towards Saga, lifting his spear to strike. His lance splinters across her chest, while he squeezes his thighs around his horse to brace himself for her blow. He tosses the splintered remains of his sword to the side, accepting a replacement from the Argent Squire before he turns back. Again he crosses Lances with Saga and this time she nearly unhorses him. But he shifts his weight in his stirups, holding tight to the reins as he keeps ahorse by standing on one leg in the stirup. He tosses the splintered lance and accepts another replacement before charging down the field. When they connect this time, Garett let's out an audible grunt of pain as he's driven into the dirt where he lays there for a long moment

Another round of quiet clapping from Relios, his eyes watching the fight between Saga and Garett before they both unseat each other. "Well done everyone."

The Warlord stayed silent while watching the previous bouts, but Yvette and Garett breaking spears against each other yet staying on thier horses has her on the edge of her seat. When the two of them find themselves mutually unhorsed on their third and final pass, she gets on her feat and erupts into cheers, "Whoo! Amazing horsemanship!"

A lance is definitely the weapon for this event. Leofric's weapon strikes Yvette way before she's in range to strike him with her blade helping to shed some of the power from her blow and thus, somehow, remain seated on his mount.

The Warlord stayed silent while watching the previous bouts, but Saga and Garett breaking spears against each other yet staying on their mounts has her on the edge of her seat. When the two of them find themselves mutually unhorsed - unbulled on Saga's case - on their third and final pass, she gets on her feat and erupts into cheers, "Whoo! Amazing display of horsemanship!" Is it bullmanship when you ride a bull? Whatever, it was awesome regardless.

"Lord Heir Garett has unhorsed Lord Escanor! Lady Saga has finally unhorsed Lord Priest Leofric after three grueling passes! And Aegon Keir has unhorsed Marchioness Yvette! At least two passes around this time folks! What a show that is being put on today!"

Garett picks himself gingerly off the ground, scowling at the dent in his armor that Saga had left for him as a souvenir. He wraps a gauntled hand against it before he shrugs and gets back on his horse and retrieves a new spear. When Escanor is announced as his opponent, the young Knight lets out a whoop. "Finally!" He touches spurs to flank, charging down at The Black Dragon. They cross lances twice before Garett unhorses the veteran

Leofric gives Saga a salute as they line up for the first pass. It takes him a moment to adapt to the strangeness of aiming for a woman on a bull in a joust but he's done this before. It takes only a few moments. The first pass rocks him but doesn't shift him from his mount. The second pass too sees a pair of broken lances but no lorandi in the dirt. Its the third and final pass where his skill, or luck, runs out. He almost, almost, manages to stay mounted but ends up sliding more and more off balance until he has to pull his horse up and slide off. Another loss. Darn.

This time around, Yvette has a better handle on her horse. Or maybe the mount realized he was soon to be replaced otherwise. Once again, she makes more used of the flat of her blade than anything else when facing down Aegon; allowing her braced arm and the broadside of the sword to hit the Faenor man. It serves her well on the first pass, but not the second when his strike, instead, serves to be too much and she hits the ground shortly after.

Saga grins fiercely to Leofric. This likely isn't the first joust they've ever ridden against each other! They probably even train together, sometimes. She connects solidly with Leofric all three times, taking strong hits every single time as well. They seem easily matched, right up until Saga shifts her aim just slightly to set the other Lorandi off balance!

Aegon rides against Yvette now, and in their first pass she proves to land the better blow, and it even seems as if the big elf will fall. Knocked from his stirrups, there's light between him and his saddle until he drops his broken lance to pull himself back into the seat before his stead gets too far out from under him. It's a close call, but his recovery no doubt gains him the support of many in the crowd, and he rides with those cheers in his ears when he has a second run at Yvette, trading blows with her again and manages to stay seated again.

Escanor is unhorsed after two passes with a young knight who is apparently extremely eager to face off against him. "Lets have a good joust." He says in a deadpanned expression to Garett. But alas, Garett is the better horseman. Escanor is unhorsed after taking the lance directly to the chest! Falling off of his mount, Escanor lands on a knee but takes a second to get back up. "I was never quite good at jousting." He rises back to his feet then, before looking over at Garett. "Well done, sir."

"Lady Saga has unhorsed Marchioness Yvette! Lord Priest Leofric has unhorsed Lord Escanor! and Aegon has unhorsed Lord Heir Garett!"

Garett retrieves a fresh lance, lifting it in salute to Aegon. Once again he touches spurrs to the Horses flank, charging down towards the other Faenor. The cross lances twice, but the second blow from Aegon sends Garett reeling. He struggles to stay in the saddle but the force of the blow was to much and he falls into the dirt, flipping from the momentum

Aegon seems to be getting into a rhythm at this, at lest today. While he just managed to squeek out a victory over Garett in a duel that seemed to go on forever, and Garett outlasted him in the free for all by quite a bit, after two passes Aegon has managed to ride victorious today, with Garett just as like to come out on top the next time they take the field in contest.

Leofric gives Escanor the same salute that he has given to each of the others. "I must say I'm grateful not to be meeting you in a duel Lord Escanor." Polite pre-attack conversation concluded he then settles into absolute seriousness. Letting the rythm of charge, aim, strike, recover wrap around him. The first strike neither are unhorsed but on the second Leofric barely manages to get in a good strike. Fortunately its enough and his opponent is unhorsed. "You rode well." he offers to Escanor.

Let's be honest: Yvette knew she had no chance against Saga. The other woman actively trains in mounted combat. Yvette doesn't. Even so, the Marchioness tries her best. She at least is, as before, able to get consistently solid hits in. It's staying astride once she's hit in return that's difficult and once again... she's unhorsed and left brushing herself off.

Fresh lances are acquired, and Saga leans down to give Crete's shoulder a firm couple of pats. She readies up, leaving her lance at Yvette-- and manages to land a solid hit on the Grandmaster. She rocks in her saddle, grunting with the impact, but stays seated with relative ease.

Escanor just -is not- good at mounted combat! He's used to being on his feet. Hell, he's better at levitating than he is at riding a horse into battle. But alas, he is dismounted and he turns his head to Leofric. "I expect nothing less of you." Escanor says with a small bow of the head to Leofric. Thankful all the same he had his chance to joust him on 'his turf' as it were.

"Lord Heir Garett wins 3 points to 2 points against Lord Priest Leofric. Lady Saga has unhorsed Aegon and Lord Escanor has unhorsed Marchioness Yvette. We will tally the points and announce a winner shortly."

Garett nods his head to Leofric at the end of it. "Well ridden Lord Priest."

"Indeed." Leofric says to Garett. "Well ridden."

Aegon makes a show, as best he can, whenever there is a contest. Any tournament or brawl is likely to draw his attendence, and so it is so that an elf who's primary duty is the training of foot soldiers finds himself on a borrowed horse against a Lady who rides a bull and does it well. Aegon manages two passes with her even, a tribute to his staying power, but on that third pass he is so utterly wrecked by her charge that his still form on the ground may just be begining to draw concern when he sits up suddenly, coughing and then laughing. "What a strike!" he says, groaning as he rises, "I'll have to get me a bull to ride next time!"

The Warlord has been cheering loudly for the last couple of bouts, clearly very excited as the quality of jousting picks up, and many bouts result in multiple passes. It's all very exciting, the lances breaking, splinters flying across the air, horsemen being thrown off the saddles and rolled around in the dirt. The crowd roars, but Sylindra's powerful voice can almost be distinctly heard above them. It's an amazing spectator sport, really.

After a few minutes has passed, Rawlin steps out into the center of the field and holds up his hands.

"Ladies and Gentle-elves, it is time to announce the winner. First, let us offer our warmest thanks and congratulations to all who participated today. No matter what, they all glorified Rithor's teachings and rose to the challenge and for that they should be saluted." The High Priest gives the crowd a few moments to give their cheers.

"In THIRD PLACE with 31 POINTS is AEGON KEIR."

"In SECOND PLACE with 32 POINTS is LORD HEIR GARETT INGITH."

"In FIRST PLACE and OUR JOUSTING CHAMPION FOR THIS YEAR with 42 POINTS is LADY SAGA BRIXTIEN!"

Much like Lord Escanor, Yvette is not one for jousting. And it shows in this final bout. She tries, certainly. Once again (and much as he, perhaps), her use of the blade in the initial pass is good: a solid hit. Unfortunately, she's going up against someone who hits like nothing other and there was no question she'd be unseated. This time, she just sort of stays there for a long while until someone helps her back to her feet. "That's gonna bruise," the woman is saying as she heads to the sidelines to watch the rest of the joust, letting out a cheer once Saga is announced the winner.

Garett is overheard praising Saga: Jousting Champion!

Rawlin is overheard praising Garett: For participating in the jousts.

Rawlin is overheard praising Aegon: For participating in the jousts.

Rawlin is overheard praising Leofric: For participating in the jousts.

Rawlin is overheard praising Escanor: For participating in the jousts.

Rawlin is overheard praising Yvette: For participating in the jousts.

Rawlin is overheard praising Saga: For winning the jousts!

When Saga takes to the lists opposite Aegon, she actually offers a bit of a bow of her head! Aegon's beaten her handily on a melee field, and so there's definitely a bit of a fire to beat him on -her- playing ground. The first two passes only fuel that fire, and once again Saga shatters her lance on the last pass while staying firmly in her saddle this time! Once Aegon's been down for a second or two too long, though, she's dismounting to make her way over. She laughs as Aegon speaks, reaching down to offer her hand. "You can take him for a spin, if you'd like?" In fact, that's right when Rawlin announces, and Saga's looking up with a blink. "Oh! Thanks!" She's grining, clearly proud of herself and loving the cheering! She might be blushing a little, too.

Garett lifts his hands, clapping for Saga as she is announced the winner. "Well done. You clearly earned it."

Relios is overheard praising Saga: Wonderful riding skills, Lady Saga!

Escanor actually won that pass? Surprising. But, he dismounts his mount and aids Yvette right back up to her feet. "You did very well. I was certain you would be the one to unhorse me. Unfortunately, I have been unhorsed by most everyone."

Yvette is overheard praising Saga: For winning the joust, with a bull.

Aegon is still bringing himelf to his full height as Lady Saga helps him to his feet and offers him the surely exhillirating experience of riding the great bull Crete. "Don't you worry about me, you go celebrate your well-earned victory."

"Well done Saga!" Leofric calls as the winners are announced.

Saga is all smiles, but she just slaps the Faenor on the back of the shoulder once or twice, in pure camraderie, and makes her way over towards Rawlin in case she had to do anything else.

Rawlin spots Saga walking over and smiles, "Congratulations, Lady Saga! You did very well and I was impressed by all of your bouts. You certainly made a name for yourself, I think!" He smiles and bows his head, "I hope you can come to the Awards Ceremony held after the next round of events, my wife and I will be handing out prizes and encouraging many elves to cheer on all those who have shown excellence at the tournament."

"I was planning on going whether I won anything or not! Thanks for putting this on; I can't imagine how much work it is from your side." Saga smiles, patting the High Priest on the shoulder as well!

Garett slips out of his breast plate, grabbing a hammer and working on the dent that Saga left for him to deal with. He exchanges a look with Zeal and sighs softly, shaking his head.

"I am just pleased people are enjoying themselves." The High Priest says in return. "Although I shouldn't dally too long or Seren is going to wonder if I'm purposely leaving the watching of the twins to her."

Having stood up to give another round of silent clapping for the victors, the Lord Heir places his gaze on a specific individual and begins to beeline towards him. Raising a hand in greeting, Relios offers a small smile towards Escanor. "Well done, Lord Escanor."
